make CUSTOM SHAPES on FONDANTS with CRICUT!
Can cricut cut custom shapes on fondats? Now wouldn't that be something! The possibilities would be endless if this was actually possible. Wouldn't it? Not only would it save you so much time, you could even build your confidence. if your cake looks fancier, doesn't it also mean that you can increase the prices a little bit more?
I'm here to say that you can actually cut fondants, WITH THE HELP of a Cricut. Any Cricut. Yep.
But this isn't done directly. It needs a little bit of effort. But hey! If shape cutting and drawing isn't your strong suit, i really think that you shouldn't give up. And take up on my advise here.
Let me show you two methods of making your Cricut cut custom shapes.
Method One: directly.
Now this is not an established mode of cutting fondant with a Cricut because i haven't seen many people doing it. But there are people who do. So instead of sharing the lengthy process of going about this technique let me share you the link to a YouTube tutorial of some people who actually did do it!
Moving on
Method Two: indirect cutting.
Incase you don't want to go through the length process and risks involved with direct cutting (since it'll definitely take a bit of practice to catch up with the direct technique mentioned above) and if you're looking for a quick and easy fix, you should probably check out the reference cutting technique. For this, all you need to do is get the shape cut on a stencil sheet or cardstock and use this cutout to cut out the same design on a fondant. Let me help you understand this with a few pictures instead.
In the picture above, a paper cut out of a font lettering has been laid out on top of rolled fondant (please note that in the picture above the font was hand cut. You can get your Cricut to cut out fonts perfectly and super quick. This also means that if you're someone who struggles with scissors, here's a definite reason for you to invest in a Cricut. Be it even the tiny little joy)
Fonts can be a little bit time taking. But any other shape could be really easy to cut this way. Using the contour tool to break down complex design as in the case of vinyl layering can also help you with complex design cutouts!for example, in this cake, you mostly need alot of squares and rectangles. Almost all the shapes in the fondants used to decorate this cake can be made with this method. Once you're done cutting, you just have to do a little finish touches to give it a professional look.
