must have tools for any level cricut crafter
The must-have tools for any level of cricut crafter, but whom are we kidding? This one is especially dedicated to the beginners.
Why? Very easy.
The moment one becomes the owner of a cricut, its as if we become possessed. The first time we get a project done, we become slaves to this machine. I'm telling you. We have no idea what maddness comes over us because from then on its a crazy crazy drive to acquire all those tools out there to see all the magic that this machine can do. We don't know how we're going to buy it, but we all end up finding means to do so. I myself am guilty of the same.
See it's okay if you've got enough money and you're well to do. Then you don't even have to read further. But if you're someone like me, running a business that requires absolute finance management and care and is a bit bothered and feels guilty later on for having 'splurged'... Well. Then do stay and read.
I'm assuming that you've already been through a lot of YouTube videos related to cricut by now and you must've already seen all the fancy beautiful pastel coloured gorgeous tool kits that people own. God, they even match it to their clothes and their channel... Aaahhh.. what a wonderful dream. Back to reality. I'm not talking about the blades or the scoring wheels or the foiling tools or the mat. No no. Those depend on your projects.
I'm talking about the scraper tools, the brayers, the tweezers, the spatula and such. Some of these tools can be substituted with cheaper other things and it wouldn't even make any difference. Except that we will be saving a bit of money. And some you definitely need.
So here are some of the tools that i think are absolutely necessary and are absolutely worth the investment.
1. The Cricut Spatula
Here's why you definitely need the spatula. Once you've gotten your material cut, taking it off the sticky mat can be a bit tricky. I've worked with a lot of different materials and sometimes when i rush through things i try to take off the cut material from the Mat by hand. Most often than not, i end up damaging the material and redo the cut all over again. Especially if the cut is intricate or the paper is too thin. Sometimes the vinyl comes off it's sticky base material and sometimes my cardstock gets damage. This problem could have been avoided altogether if i had used a spatula.
Now, when i was in my save-me-Lord-i-have-no-money phase, i tried to substitute the spatula with something else. Back then i hadn't bought a spatula yet and i thought it wouldn't matter. So i substituted it with a an old clay modelling tool of mine. Though it did work to an extent, this particular tool was a bit too sharp and i often get injured trying to get off the cut materials from my mat. Sometimes it even leaves marks on my mat. And that's when i realised, no matter what, i definitely need a spatula. And why you need it too.
2. The Weeding Tool
I tried to come up with a tool of my own as a substitute for the Weeding Tool and you can find alot of substitutions for this (as seen on tips and tricks from YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, etc) . The substitute that i tried wasn't quite helpful because sometimes inorder to get that tiny dots out of the vinyls it can be really stressful if your tool isn't good enough. When you're doing it for your business, or if you're under pressure to get it done, a right tool is your only ally. So if you're going to be working with a lot of intricate cut projects or vinyls then it would be highly beneficial for you to buy a weeding tool. Because you'll really need to get in there to get those sticky precision!
And here's what i think about a few other tools that's available -
Brayer, tweezer, scraper, tweezer, scissors
All of these can be easily substituted without missing out on anything.
Thats it for this article of mine.
To conclude, if you're running a little low on money and you cannot afford to buy all the tools that's available (not that you need to. But if feeeel like you need to, now that you have a cricut) the tools that are definitely worth investing are the spatula and the weeding tool.
But, feel free to try the substitution hacks first too. Because sometimes, my right need not always be your right and your substitute could actually work out for you.
Thank you for 🐻 ing with me.
