does a cricut scoring stylus work?
does a cricut scoring stylus work?
Good question. Before i bought my scoring stylus, i came upon a few reviews that said that the scoring stylus doesn't work as expected. Hmmm... So i did a bit more research into it. Back then i only had my cricut explore so i badly needed the scoring feature to work. I am a box making addict. I just badly need the scoring tool because when it comes to drawing lines, i am a lost cause. No matter what tools i use, my lines are never precise and i always end up making unprofessional boxes. That's not good for my business or my confidence. So it all came down to my cricut.
Plus i really didn't know how to make 'line-free' scoring on my own. I hated to see those lines on my boxes. It was like the cherry on top of my lame box. Sigh. I really counted on that stylus.
And to be honest, when I saw the cricut scoring stylus and the cricut scoring wheel, initially i was a little bit disappointed that my cricut explore can only use a scoring stylus whereas if i had the cricut maker, i would've been able to use the scoring wheel. Despite the cost that came with the scoring wheel..
Anyway. I needed this to work no matter what so i went through a few hacks, crossed my fingers and bought the scoring stylus. And hey! It wasn't bad. It wasn't bad at all!
Infact I loved the cricut scoring stylus tip so much that i started using it for all my manual scoring needs as well!
What can I say? Looks can be quite deceiving!
But when you use a cricut scoring stylus, there is one thing you need to know. You need to make double or triple scoring lines. One upon the other so that the folds are really etched. The number of repeatitions depends upon the material you plan to use. Normally i use 3*scoring lines for 120 gsm cardstock. But every paper quality varies depending upon the manufacturer. So you have to figure out how many repeatitions to make on your own.
Now just because you have to give the scoring on repeat doesn't mean that it's going to take a long time to get the work done. It's pretty fast when it comes to scoring or cutting for that matter. There's nothing to worry about.
So here's the answer you've been looking for:
If you've already got a cricut explore, have no fear on investing in a cricut scoring stylus. I have no complaints about mine.
Here's the most important thing that i would like for you to know:
If you haven't even bought a cricut machine yet, and your works majorly involves making scoring lines (for example if you need to make lots and lots of hamperboxes or cardstock projects) then you should consider the possibility of buying a cricut maker 3. Because from what i know, the cricut maker 3 uses scoring wheels and it is damn precise. You won't even need to put the scoring lines on repeat and the folds are pretty crisp!
On the other hand, if your works only require scoring just a bit of here and there or if you're a hobbyist, a cricut explore and it's scoring stylus should work perfectly fine.
That being said, I actually need a lot of scoring in most of my works and so far and i haven't had any issues with my cricut scoring stylus. So yep. A cricut scoring stylus can get the job done. When it's used right. As simple as that.
